What equipment do you use?
I use Canon 5D Mark II & variety of professional grade lenses. I also use Large format field camera. I own a Canon flash, portable studio if necessary, professional Epson Large format printer, cold board mounting & cold laminating machine. My monitor is regularly calibrated.
How are your board mounted books/albums made & would the quality be suitable for professional artistic portfolio as well?
I print the books/albums on heavyweight professional photo paper as standard or on Fine Art Velvet Rug Paper as an option. In either way, I print on roll. It allows me to create really unlimited lengths for concertina board books. I pre-coat the acid free boards using the cold press mounting machine. The same machine then cold-laminates the book. The Velvet paper is not laminated, but roll-varnished by non-yellowing, water based varnish. The book is then creased & hand mounted. I cut the edges from all sides using an industrial heavy weight trimmer for a smooth and professional finish. In the end I "seal" the exposed edges of the mounting boards with a mixture of archival neutral PH adhesive and water, so they do not split over time.
I am offering a really professional, archival quality bespoke solution for all customers, including professional photographers/artists looking for the highest standard, yet affordable printed portfolio/book/album.
I am interested in your photo canvas scrolls or book. Do you accept photos from mobile phones? What is the recommended resolution of photos you can work with?
Yes, I do accept photos from any media able to take photo (pin hole camera, mobile, etc) as long as the image is at least 150 dpi (best if 240 or even better 300 dpi) and is at least 20 cm long on each side for scrolls, and 10 x 10 cm minimum for books. For long scrolls, I recommend at least 40 cm x 40 cm at 240 dpi. Any decent camera, even a modern phone, will do it, as long as you keep the settings on the highest possible quality. If you are not sure if your image is big/sharp enough for scroll, just send me the image and I will check it for you before we go any further!
I am quite interested in your vintage large format camera session. Will the photographed people have to stay for long in one position? Are the exposure times very long? Is the quality in this digital age worth the effort/money?
My research shows, that even with the best available digital technologies, the large format sheet film offers the best available quality in terms of depth, colour range, gamut, cinematographic perception and resolution (yes, I can scan the photo into 6 GB file If I want to!). In addition, each photo is thoroughly prepared, framed and focused. The camera system is really flexible. The exposure times can be slightly longer if no flash is used (I use flash sometimes, but try to limit it to minimum), but in average we are talking only about splits of seconds, which is not really noticeable. The large format offers photography at its best . Suitable for interiors, landscapes, pets, portraits, antiques, details.... Check some of my projects taken with this camera - most of my documentary projects plus many commercials.
I am looking for a reliable, friendly photographer, who will listen to me, but at the same time will advise/navigate me during the photo session. Are you able to follow such request?
This is exactly what I offer! While some photographers will try to get the best images for themselves, rather than their clients, others are too afraid to have their say when needed and the quality suffers. I usually create an informal session list with the client. This helps to get an idea of what the client wants and expects as well as some time for me to think about the details. We then follow the list in a flexible way and sometimes even create completely unexpected settings and photos! If you feel uncomfortable in front of a camera, I will make sure I do not force you to act like a Hollywood star, but to get the most natural feel and look of you. It usually works well when photographing in a place you feel comfortable at. In any case, if interested, email me or phone for an informal chat. I am always happy to help and discuss your preferences.
Do you offer your own limited edition prints in any other size/format than stated?
Yes and no. Limited edition prints are only in the given size and format. They can be purchased
without frame/mount & border as unmounted, printed on archival certified matte canvas or archival certified fine art velvet paper. I am currently testing fibre based archival paper for a more satin finish as well. After years of trials I've found these combinations work best for my images. It can, of course, change in the future. You can request additional sizes of some of my images, if interested, just let me know and I will confirm the availability where applicable.
